February news letter

20 Feb 2011 4:51 PM - Oar-Gee Lures

Persistent rain since our last newsletter is keeping a lot of fishermen at home doing the chores.

It’s the greenest I have seen a February for a very long time which means a few extra weekends on the mower.

Fishing reports across the board have been disappointing, Southwest Anglers competition at Buckingbong reserve on the Murrumbidgee, river seen only five legal sized fish landed and they were all yellow belly, along with a lot of small Murray Cod, Trout Cod and ever increasing numbers of Carp.

Southwest Anglers Association are the umbrella group for all of the angling clubs in the southwest of NSW  and do a fantastic job in representing all the clubs at a higher level.

In the impoundments it has also been quite, I think the recent floods and inundated new ground has released a massive amount of food into the water making it difficult to tempt fish that are already full.

With summer almost over the cooling months of autumn will hopefully see a change in feeding patterns and along with some stable weather the fishing should improve.

I received a couple of emails from people telling me about their fishing, both sent photos of their fish and they have been awarded the 2 photo of the month awards, each for a different reason.

The winner of the Photo of the month is James for his photo of his first Yellow Belly, he wanted to know where to get our lures, and after passing on the information he sent an email and photo the next day of his catch, sometimes a smile says it all. (I have included the email in the Testimonial pages.)

The junior winner of the photo of the month came from a very excited and proud Grandfather; Tom rang me chasing some more of his favourite bass lures, the Lil Ripper, after putting him in touch with a tackle shop that carried the colour he wanted Tom started to tell me about his fishing trip with his 3 grandsons to the Kangaroo Valley.

Sometimes actually catching a fish is an anticlimax to the adventure and the time spent passing on a life time of knowledge to ones grandchildren. (I have also put Tom’s email on the testimonial pages.)

To another Grandfather, our very good friend Peter from Mullet Gut Marine in Toowoomba has sold his tackle shop and has retired; he has been an outstanding customer of ours for more than 20years.

Since starting Oar-Gee Lures there have been 5 or 6 people that have stood by us without compromise, their advice, friendship and support has not waivered and Debbie and I are proud to say Peter is one of those people, we wish Peter and his lovely wife Mary a very long retirement. The next bottle of red is on me!!

Our lure of the month should be the 100mm Plow, but the high and dirty rivers to the west are not being fished as they would for this time of year, instead anglers are opting for the cleaner waters of the impoundments and using smaller lures, so this month it is the Shad.

The Shad is available in 3 depths of 3.6mt, 6mts and 10mt. This lure is perfectly suited for Yellow Belly Redfin and trout and available in all the colours on our colour chart.

The Shad is also an excellent lure for use in the saltwater with Flathead a prime target species.

Until our next news letter, good fishing.
